How Clients Should Document Vehicle Damage

Step-by-step guide for clients to properly photograph and document their vehicle damage.

Photos of your vehicle damage are important evidence. Here's how to document it properly.

When to Take Photos

  • At the accident scene if safe
Vehicle information in Quilia app
  • Before any repairs are made
  • From the tow yard or body shop
  • Get photos even weeks later - some is better than none

What to Photograph

Exterior Damage

  • All four sides of the vehicle
  • Close-ups of damage areas
  • Wide shots showing full vehicle
  • License plate (proves it's your car)

Interior Damage

  • Deployed airbags
  • Broken glass inside
  • Blood stains (if any)
  • Damaged seats or dashboard

Context Photos

  • Odometer reading
  • VIN plate
  • Any warning lights on dashboard

Photo Tips

  • Use good lighting (daylight is best)
Your attorney can send you messages through the Quilia system
  • Take more photos than you think you need
  • Include something for scale (your hand, a coin)
  • Capture paint transfer from other vehicle
  • Don't edit or filter photos

Uploading to the App

  1. Open Quilia app
  2. Go to Documents or Assets
  3. Tap upload/camera icon
  4. Select photos or take new ones
  5. Add description: "Vehicle damage photos"

If Vehicle is Totaled

Get photos before insurance takes possession. Once they have it, you may not get another chance.
