SMS Terms
Last updated on April 19, 2026
Quilia is a case-management platform used by law firms to communicate with their retained clients about active legal matters. This page describes how SMS text messaging works through Quilia, how clients consent to receive texts, and how they can opt out.
Who sends the messages
Messages are sent by a law firm that has retained the client and is using Quilia to manage communications for their case. Quilia acts as the platform; the law firm is the sender. Recipients always have a pre-existing business relationship with the sending firm.
How clients consent to receive SMS
When a law firm adds a client to Quilia, the client receives a one-time text message from Quilia that reads:
"You've been added to secure case messaging regarding your legal matter. Reply YES to confirm you'd like to receive text messages related to your case. Reply STOP to opt out or HELP for assistance. Msg & data rates may apply."
No further SMS messages are sent unless the client replies YES. This reply is the consent action. Clients who do not reply YES will not receive any additional text messages from the firm through Quilia.
Types of messages
All SMS messages sent through Quilia are transactional and case-related. Examples include:
- Case status updates
- Appointment reminders and confirmations
- Requests for documents or information
- Responses from the legal team to client questions
Quilia does not send marketing or promotional SMS. Messages are sent only about the client's active legal case.
Message frequency
Frequency varies based on case activity. Active cases may receive several messages per week during busy phases (such as demand or settlement negotiations) and very few messages during quiet phases.
Opting out
At any time, clients may reply STOP to stop receiving SMS messages. Quilia and the sending law firm honor STOP replies immediately. After opting out, a client may reply START to resume SMS delivery.
Getting help
Reply HELP to any message for assistance, or contact the sending law firm directly.
Rates
Message and data rates may apply.
Mobile information
Mobile phone numbers and the consent status associated with them are never sold or shared with third parties for marketing purposes. Phone numbers are used solely to deliver case-related SMS on behalf of the sending law firm. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
