What is Elder Neglect?
The failure of a caregiver or care facility to provide adequate food, water, medical care, hygiene, shelter, or supervision to an elderly person in their care.
Understanding Elder Neglect
Elder neglect is one of the most common forms of elder abuse and can be intentional or result from inadequate staffing, poor training, or institutional indifference. Neglect can lead to serious health consequences including dehydration, malnutrition, infections, pressure ulcers, and even death. Both individual caregivers and facilities can be held liable for neglect.
